What is Microblading?

Here you will find answers to many of the common questions regarding microblading.

What is microblading?

Microblading eyebrows is a form of semi-permanent makeup that creates natural, beautiful eyebrows with a handheld microblade. It’s perfect for people who have over plucked or those who what to define, darken or reshape their eyebrows.  This procedure can also be used by those who have lost hair due to chemotherapy or other health-related reasons for hair loss.

How long does the procedure take?

The initial procedure takes 1.5-2 hours. Touch up sessions are usually shorter and shouldn’t take longer than 1 hour.

How soon after the procedure can makeup be worn?

We recommend that take at least a 1-2 week break from wearing makeup, or at least until the area is completely healed before wearing makeup. You can wear eye makeup, foundation, lipstick or any other forms of makeup before then as long as it doesn’t come in contact with brows. Also, make sure that any makeup you use is below the brows to prevent any makeup from getting to the brow area.

What would disqualify someone from being a candidate for microblading?

The most common reasons are the following:

  • under the age of 18

  • pregnant

  • currently breastfeeding

  • prone to keloids

  • undergoing chemotherapy

  • have any major heart problems

  • currently, have a viral infection or disease

If you have a condition that doesn’t fit the ones mentioned above but still feel like it would be an issue please let us know before booking your appointment so we can make sure that there won’t be any type of issue or problem due to your condition or situation.

Does microblading Hurt?

This is a very subjective question because every person has a different pain tolerance. In all our years of doing microblading, we have never had any extreme reactions to the procedure in terms of pain. Some compare it to plucking eyebrows, others say it’s very relaxing. To make sure you have the least amount of pain we apply lidocaine to the area that we will be working with. Even if you feel a little sting, we are sure you will be happy with how you look in the end and it will be totally worth it.

If I am on medications, can I get microblading done?

If you are on any medication we always recommend that you consult with your doctor or the doctor that prescribed that medication just to be safe and make sure that there won’t be any issues with the procedure, the results, effects of the medication, and most of all your health. Medicine changes the body’s chemistry, which can cause your skin and body to react differently than usual to the pigments. Also, consider that some medications cause lack of pigment retention giving you poor results, and that’s the last thing we would like to see. Results vary for certain individuals. If you are on a temporary cycle of medication we recommend just waiting until you are done with the medication cycle to do the procedure. If the medication you are on is permanent we recommend that you consult with your doctor before booking an appointment.

How long does it last?

Microblading can last 1-2 years for most people before it needs a touchup.  The initial appointment needs to be followed by a touchup in about 6-8 weeks when the true color and shape will take effect.  At the first touchup, we will see how your skin responded to the pigment, and make any color adjustments then.  The brows will continue to soften and lighten, and you may find that a touchup every year will keep your brows looking fresh.

How long does it take to fully heal?

It will take about 30 days to fully heal, in which time you may experience mild scabbing.  This usually lasts about 2 weeks.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

  • If you have an ideal shape or goal in mind please bring pictures of the desired shape. You can fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you usually like to have.

  • if you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, make sure you do this at least 3 days prior to your appointment. Minimal shaping is done during the procedure but it is best to have them done prior to reduce any skin sensitivity and irritation.

  • You must stop taking blood thinning medications for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your appointment. (including Vitamin E, Asprin, Niacin, Ibuprofen, and fish oil supplements.)

  • Do not drink any alcohol the night before your appointment and limit the amount of caffeine you consume.

  • If you have been prescription Accutane in the past, you must wait at least one year before considering microblading.  It is highly recommended that you avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure.
